Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What time is check-in and check-out?

A:To give a good chance for the housekeeper to get there, check the place over and make sure that it's ready to receive the next guests, we request that you don't plan your arrival until after 4 p.m, and that you leave the cottage on your last morning at 10:00 a.m.

Q: What about the heating, I hear it's cold up there?

A: There are two log burners, one in the living room and one in the dining room. There is also oil central heating. Outside the summer season, the heating comes on at 7am to 11am, 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 11pm. You can override these at any time by switching the programmer to either "off" or "cont". But please do not alter the programmed times. When you leave the house please ensure that the programmer is set to "auto" for both heating and hot water.

Q: What is the small black dome on top of the bookcase?

A: On top of the bookcase there is a small black dome that pulsates dim blue and red coloured lights. This is a remote station that allows us to control the central heating by mobile phone. Please do not unplug it as it will switch off the heating and unless you are able to contact us you will not be able to switch it on again.

Q: What about water?

A: To improve consistency, we had a water borehole drilled at the end of June 2010 and now the house now has its own supply and fresh drinking water through a tap with micro filtration. Hot water is timed to heat at 7am to 9.30am, 1pm to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm. You can override these times by switching the programmer to either "off" or "cont". Please do not alter the programmed times. You can also heat the water electrically by pressing the water heater button mounted on the airing cupboard in the front bedroom. There is also a 10.5kw instantaneous electric shower in the bathroom.

Q: Do you supply linen and towels?

A: We don't currently. We want to reduce the price that we can let the house for. Most guests will like to be assured of the quality of the bed sheets that they will be using. We provide duvets for both summer and winter use, and pillows. The bed in the master bedroom is a 5 ft king and the singe beds are each 3 ft.

Q: Can I take one of your books from the bookshelf?

A: Of course you can, and we would be very grateful if you would leave something for us to read when we are visiting. Additionally if you visit any worthwhile attractions please remember to take a leaflet and mention it in the visitor's book.

Q: Do you provide discounts if there are less than six people?

A: Unfortunately no because you will have the use of the full house and unless you were prepared to share the house with some complete strangers, the cost to us would still be the same. The price is also significantly less than you would expect to pay with some of the commercial agencies and for that reason we are unable to reduce the price further as to do so would be uneconomic.

Q: Do you charge for heating and electricity?

A: At the moment we do not and as long as people use the utilities carefully and responsibly, we will continue to make no charge but reserve the right to change that approach if it becomes too expensive for us.

Q: Do you supply washing up liquid, soap, shampoo, dishwasher tabs etc?

A: No we don't, but you may find left-overs from the previous guests. Likewise, you may feel you can help out the next guests by leaving part used bottles or packs yourselves.

Q: What about firelighters and logs?

A: No, but in the winter we will try to lay a fire with firelighters and kindling for you on your first night. You may also find some logs in the basket and some additional left-over firelighters from the previous guests. But you'll find supplies at the petrol station and many of the local shops sell handy nets of logs and kindling for about £3. We usually bring 2 or 3 of them with us, which lasts about 4 evenings.
